Biology Field Trip to Leeson House, Swanage

If you are a Biology student you will already be signed up for the Biology Field trip, leaving on Wednesday 29th June. More information to be found here.

Physics Trip to London

No CERN this year, but this has not stopped Dr Mayor and Mr Simm from planning an exciting Physics-based trip to London. Physics students have already signed up for this and more information can be found here.

Project Days

Run by Mrs Costello-Kelly, the EPQ coordinator, this option is suitable for any student considering a student-led project in the next academic year: this includes the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), the Crest Award (research in STEM subjects) or any other independent research project, such as preparing for an essay competition. It will take place in School and run for the two days. You will be allowed independent working time, as well as one-to-one and group support in choosing a suitable title, you’ll get guidance on how to research effectively or anything else that you need help with in order to get you started. Use this time to get feedback on your ideas, and make a really good head start in your research.

A Partnership project runs between local primary schools and KES during Endeavour. Our Fourth Year pupils spend the Thursday planning a lesson, which they will deliver on the Friday to around 200 primary school children, in a carousel-style system – ie 6 times to 6 different groups. The areas these fun-orientated lessons are offered in are Sport, Dance, Art, Science and Coding. There is room for a small number of Sixth formers to volunteer to support this activity and develop their leadership skills; you will advise, supervise, generally help out and be part of the Partnerships team – enabling this to run smoothly under the guidance of Dr Woolstenhulme –you can choose the curriculum area which appeals to you to help out in.

The Great KES Bake off - Activity Information

I am delighted that your child is going to join us for the Great KES Bake Off during Endeavour this year on 30th June and 1st July.

This activity will take place at School in the Dining room on both days, and pupils will need to register with me there at 08:45 for a prompt start. The theme for the Showstopper is “Your Favourite KES Memory”. I would encourage your child to start considering their design and sourcing any specialist ingredients or equipment e.g. shaped cookie cutters, in advance of the event.

Day One:

Biscuit Day -

Bake and decorate two different varieties of biscuits or cookies, one of which should have a filling of their choice – think jammie dodger, custard cream, bourbon.

Day Two:

Showstopper -

Bake and decorate a Showstopper cake that reflects a favourite KES memory. The Showstopper can be any flavour, shape or colour, multi or single-layered and decorated as creatively as imagination allows.

The Showstoppers will be judged by a select panel of discerning foodies, including a special guest appearance from one of the Masterchef 2022 contestants!

On each day bakers will need to bring:

  • A packed lunch
  • An apron
  • Any utensils they will need (chopping board, bowls, whisks, spoons, cake tins, greaseproof paper, etc)
  • Containers to transport their creations
  • All ingredients for their bakes

A small charge of £10, to be paid via KESpay KP1157, will cover prizes and extra decorating materials, including an airbrushing kit for the adventurous bakers! If this could be paid by Friday 17th June that would be very helpful, thank you. Apologies for the quick turnaround.

There will be a meeting for the bakers in the next few weeks; your child will be emailed with details of dates and timings. Pupils may work in a team, (a maximum of two) or they may prefer to work alone!

Please provide food allergy information, if appropriate and ensure that your child does not bring any nut products to the event.

Thank you for allowing your child to participate in this event, I look forward to working with the 2022 Great KES Bake Off Bakers!

KES Ryder Cup - Trip Letter

The inaugural KES Ryder Cup will be played on 30th June at Southampton Municipal Golf Course and on 1st July at Chilworth Golf Course. We will be teeing off in the morning and playing straight through to ensure that games are finished by mid-afternoon and we can return in time for the buses. All participants will need to be in School at the normal time, for a 9am depart.

The cost of the two days is £55 – this covers two rounds of golf, transport, a team visor and the trophy. The KESpay link is here: KP1148 Endeavour KES Ryder Cup - Payments. Deadline for payment is 10th June, please.

Participants may also wish to bring a little extra money to buy drinks and snacks in the pro shop, or driving range tokens for warm ups.

All participants will need their own set of golf clubs and will need to be dressed appropriately for the golf course. It is assumed that all involved will have played golf before and will know the equipment needed and the etiquette expected on the course.

Participants should bring with them a packed lunch, to eat whilst they play.

In order to make the teams fair and the contest enjoyable, all participants will need to submit their handicap, official or otherwise, to Mr Collinson as soon as possible.

Surfing trip to Croyde - Trip Letter and essential Kit List

As I’m sure you are aware, during our Endeavour activities this summer term your child has signed up to accompany us on a surfing trip to Croyde Bay in North Devon. We have put together a trip that will hopefully maximise the students’ water time as well as provide excellent value for money.

The itinerary is as follows:

Thursday 30th June

0900 leave KES in school minibus. Please provide a packed lunch

1400 Surf lesson (2 hours) at Croyde Bay with the Croyde Bay Surfing Academy (SUP lesson if no waves)

1700 Put up tents at Ruda campsite (tents and roll mats can be provided if needed)

1800 Meal at the Thatch Inn in Croyde Bay (included)

Friday 1st July

0730 Breakfast at the campsite (included - but see note below)

0800 Coasteering (3 hour session)

1130 Hot Lunch from surf cafe (included)

1200 Take down tents and pack up

1400 Surf Lesson (2 hours)

1630 Leave Croyde

1800ish Dinner stop (not included)

2000 Arrive back at KES

All surfing and coasteering equipment is provided by the academy, however students are welcome to bring their own wetsuit if they wish. Students need to bring their own lunch for the first day and need money for dinner on the way home (Service station) and any snacks or other purchases. Given the high intensity of the activities a ready supply of snacks would be advisable. We will be providing a pastry breakfast at the campsite on the Friday morning to get the pupils through the coasteering before an early hot lunch - again if your child doesn’t like pastries then bringing some alternative breakfast would be a good idea.

Please note, in order to squeeze in as many activities as we can and maximise our time in Croyde, our return time will be after the late buses have departed - please can you organise pick up from the school site. We will get the pupils to message if our arrival time varies from the schedule above.

Although mobile phones are permitted we would recommend iPads are not brought along and please be aware there will be no charging facilities for any electronic devices at our campsite. If your child requires any routine medication please do let us know.

An essential kit list for the trip is as follows:

Sleeping bag

Roll mat

2 Towels

Warm, comfortable clothes

Comfortable footwear including some trainers that can get wet

Drinks bottle

Sun cream and sun hat

Plastic bags for wet kit

Swimwear to be worn under wetsuits

Optional Kit;

Tents - we will speak to the attendees before the trip, as it would be ideal for the pupils to group themselves and bring an appropriate tent. However, we will have some tents if required.

The total cost for the trip is £210 and can be paid via this link: KESpay KP1158. Please could you arrange to pay this as soon as possible, and at the latest by 17th June. Apologies for the quick turnaround.

Shortly after you receive this email, a further email will follow from the School’s trip management system, Evolve, asking you for consent for your child’s participation in these activities. Please do complete this as soon as possible, as your child will be unable to participate without. Many thanks.

If you have any concerns about the trip or would like any more information then please do not hesitate to contact either of us:
