Endeavour 2022

Third Year

Trip Letters plus kit lists and itineraries (where necessary) will be found below in the Activity's section!

The Dragon's Apprentice - Trip Letter

Given the recent revival of non-digital board games by millennials, coupled with the desire of many to put aside their digital devices for a period of time, KES The Dragon’s Apprentice 2022 will be challenging students to create a new board game for their generation. Our aim is to appeal to a range of interests; students will be able to design, build, make a TV ad, present and write a marketing plan, all as part of the challenge.

We are very pleased that your child will be joining us for these activities, which will take place over the two days of Endeavour; 30th June and 1st July. Students will be working in assigned groups of five. Each group’s efforts will be judged in a number of categories and prizes will be awarded accordingly at the end of the two days.

We hope that the activity will test the students’ abilities on a number of levels, while providing a friendly, but competitive challenge. Students will not be required to wear uniform and should arrive with the following on both days:

  • A packed lunch and snacks
  • Their favourite board game for 4-6 players (if they don’t have one then parental influence is encouraged)
  • Any old board games that can be cannibalised for parts (these will NOT be returned!)
  • Their iPad
  • A creative mind and lots of enthusiasm

Please meet in the Dobson theatre to register each day at 8:45am.

Watersports at Southampton Water Activities Centre - Trip Letter

I am happy to confirm that your child will be participating in watersports activities at SWAC during Endeavour on Thursday 30th June and Friday 1st July 2022.

Our pupils will be placed in small groups and will rotate through various watersports such as sailing, paddleboarding and raft building. More information about the venue can be found on their website via the hyperlink above.

The charge for both days is £52 which includes all activities at SWAC, transport and equipment. Payment can be made via KESpay KP1151 from now, and is non-refundable. The deadline for payments is June 10th 2022.

The School requires consent from you for your child to participate in these activities. Nearer the time you will receive an email containing a consent form. Please could you complete and submit this at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

We will be travelling to and from the venue by coach. We will leave School at 8:45am on both days and will return to School at approximately 3:45pm and in time for the normal buses.

Please ensure your child is aware that they should assemble at the Hill Lane gate, in the section nearest the minibuses, each morning at 8:35am for registration.

What to bring and wear

The school does not provide lunches over Endeavour and there is nowhere at SWAC to buy food and so pupils will need to bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty to drink each day. The venue provides all specialist equipment and clothing. On each day your child should wear either tracksuit bottoms or shorts, depending on the weather, and a T-shirt. In addition, they should bring:

  • Towel
  • Swimwear
  • An old pair of shoes for getting wet (closed toes, not crocs or flip flops)
  • Warm sweater or fleece
  • Sun screen if the weather is hot
  • Prescribed medication where appropriate

Jewellery and non-waterproof watches should not be worn.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Disaster and War at Sea - Trip Letter

The History Department has in the past run a number of exciting and popular trips to sites of historic interest and we are extremely pleased your child will be joining us for two day trips during Endeavour at the end of the Summer term.

The first of these will take place on 30th June and will see the group visit the Seacity museum in Southampton for a guided tour of their fabulous Titanic exhibition, followed by a guided tour of Titanic-related around Southampton; you will find out things you never knew about this ill-fated ship and its relationship to our City.

On 1st July, the party will visit the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard in order to visit both HMS Victory, Horatio Nelson’s famous flagship, and the Mary Rose, Henry VIII’s famous and unfortunate warship.

Both trips will leave by coach at approximately 8:45am in the morning and will return to KES in time for pupils to catch the normal buses. Pupils should meet me each morning under the basketball nets by the Hill Lane gate to register at 8:35am.

Your child will need to bring with them a packed lunch, any snacks they may need and a water bottle, together with some spending money- £10 should be more than sufficient. In case of bad weather, please bring a raincoat of some sort, and in case of sun, some sun cream as well as decent shoes on both days (not flip-flops please).

The cost for the trip will be £62.50, which is non-refundable, and can be paid via KESpay KP1152 anytime from now, and by 10th June latest, please.
