Curriculum Overview
In the first three years of the School (Years 7, 8 and 9) we place vigorous emphasis upon wide reading, and on extending the capacity and confidence of pupils’ oral and written expression, with a fortnightly private reading lesson in the comfort of the Gould Library.
In the Fourth Year (Year 10) pupils embark on GCSE English Language and English Literature courses, where individual teachers are encouraged to design attractive, varied and challenging schemes of work.
English is popular at Advanced Level and in recent years many students have gone on to read the subject at university. AQA specifications are followed in English Literature and English Language. Students are expected to read widely around and beyond their A Level texts and are also encouraged to debate vigorously and to participate fully in the many theatre and cultural trips on offer.
