27th February - 2nd March 2012 was Book Week here at KES. Mr Smart and the English Department organised a wide range of events to promote reading throughout the school but with particular focus in the Lower School.
Normal lessons were enhanced by special Book Week activities, Waterstones held a book sale in school during three lunchtimes and teachers dusted off their dressing up boxes as they donned the clothes of their favourite literary figure on Tuesday 28th.
The highlight of the week was the visit of published children's author Marcus Sedgwick who gave a talk to the whole of the 2nd Year on Wednesday 29th and held an intimate writing workshop with a smaller group of pupils later that day. Marcus inspired staff and students alike with his talk on writing and the number of students reading his books as a result has been quite staggering.
Everybody is agreed that Book Week was a great success so we will have to wait and see what next year brings!
