Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th June sees the second Science and Technology festival at King Edward VI School in Southampton. The pupils will once again be treated to talks and workshops covering all aspects of science from brains to the big bang. Speakers will describe and demonstrate the excitement of research and recent developments in science, supporting and extending the work pupils cover in their lessons.

The School is hosting a series of evening lectures for parents and pupils in the new, state-of-the-art Dobson Theatre. This year the free talks are open to the general public. Monday evening’s double bill begins with ‘Mind and brain in the 21st century’ followed by ‘Expedition Science’ in which, amongst other treats, younger members of the audience get to try eating insects!

Tuesday evening opens with ‘The idiot brain’ with Dr Dean Burnett, well-known author and presenter followed by ‘Rock Guitar in 11 dimensions’, a talk on quantum mechanics including live guitar music! We close the festival on Wednesday with a talk on the misuse of hormones in sport followed by an all-action finale about the science of fireworks, including some rather explosive demonstrations.
