Outstanding Summer 2020 Results

A Level

100% of King Edward’s students in 2020 passed all of their A levels with an improvement on last year’s results at the top level. 88% of all grades were at A*, A or B with 63% at A* and A. 42% of students (a total of 50) gained 3 or more A or A* grades and 33% of all grades were at A*. Over four fifths of the UVI cohort will proceed to Russell Group universities.

Head, Neal Parker, comments:

“I can only express my admiration at the achievements of our outgoing Upper Sixth. They have been subject to the most extraordinary pressures and unprecedented challenges, but their results reflect their dedication and hard work over two years of A-level study. Whilst we are all desperately sad that this year group was not able to demonstrate their learning and knowledge by sitting the exams, nonetheless they deserve heartfelt congratulations on some outstanding results. That over 63% of the results given at KES are at the highest possible level of A* or A grade; and that about 88% have received a B grade or better, is testament to the dedication of our King Edward’s pupils and teachers alike. These results are fully deserved by every student! This brilliant year group now leaves us with our warmest wishes for the future”.

GCSE/IGCSE

99.8% of IGCSEs awarded in 2020 were at grade C / 4 or above with 79% of all grades at A* and A (or grades 9-7). 93% of all grades taken were awarded at A*, A or B (grades 9-6). 99.4% of students obtained the minimum 5 GCSE passes including IGCSE Mathematics and English.

Head, Neal Parker, comments:

"I am enormously proud of our Fifth Year students this year, as well as the Fourth Year pupils who were entered for their Religious Studies GCSE this summer. This cohort has faced unprecedented challenges and difficulties, and have had to endure weeks of uncertainty as policy makers have made up, and then changed their minds about the process for awarding GCSE results. In the end, King Edward’s students can be rightfully proud of their achievements, which reflect their dedication and hard work over the entirety of the past two years. That the School has seen almost exactly 80% of all entries awarded at A*/A grade or the numerical equivalent, speaks volumes about the character of this year group and the professionalism of their teachers. They deserve our unreserved congratulations."
