Sleep and mobile phones

A 2016 HMC survey of 11-18 year olds, found that almost half (45%) of students admit they check their mobile phone after going to bed and a quarter of those check their mobile phone more than 10 times a night.

A school cyber-safety survey (November 2016) of our First, Second and Third year pupils pleasingly showed the vast majority of our pupils switch their phones off before going to sleep; however almost 10% admitted they did not and of those pupils a large proportion were checking their devices between two and five times. This can make students tired and not concentrate fully in school as well as affect their mental health.

Perhaps parents could use this data as the basis of a discussion with your children regarding a society seemingly becoming over dependent on their mobile phones.
