Pupils entering the School in the First Year who choose to study French should find themselves in classes of about twenty-four pupils. They study French for five periods over a two week cycle and use the digital book, Studio 1. In addition, the pupils will have access to material through student resources section of the website that you can see on the left-hand side of this page.
As they move into the Second Year, they progress to the digital book, Studio 2 and Third Years move onto the digital book, Studio 3 and this works well now that all Lower School pupils have iPads in the classroom.
In the Second Year, they will be encouraged to try out an additional foreign language and some will start French in the Second Year as their second foreign language. They too will follow the ‘Studio' course.
It is our aim that all pupils will arrive at the end of the Third Year feeling that they have made a good start in French. At this stage, they may choose to continue with French and/or the other language that they have studied. This system allows pupils the chance to continue with the language that they enjoy most or to continue with two languages feeling confident about their studies.
There is currently a trip to Normandy for Second Year pupils who study French either as a first or a second foreign language and this takes place over the activities day at the end of July.
