Willkommen! Welcome to the German department!

The German department aims to provide a supportive, carefully-structured and well-resourced learning environment for all students from the First Year to the Upper Sixth.

Our team of well-qualified, enthusiastic staff delivers the teaching of German in an energetic and communicative way with frequent use of technology, including interactive whiteboards and iPads for the presentation and practice of new material. The target language is regularly used as the means of instruction and communication, as we place great emphasis on developing effective communication skills.

Trips and further language activities, including an annual Lower School trip to Aachen, an Upper School residential trip, a First Year day trip and a performance by a German speaking theatre group, play a vital role in the co-curricular life of the department. Lower School pupils enjoy the weekly German club, which gives them the chance to explore the culture, play games and develop their language on an informal basis, while Upper School pupils and Sixth Form students can stretch themselves at weekly extension and support sessions.
