Throughout the school students are introduced to new language and structures by a dedicated and positive teaching staff.
Each classroom has an interactive white board, which is used to present language, encourage spoken and written practice and to provide stimulating visuals that motivate at all levels and abilities. The Internet and Spanish DVDs are also a source of authentic materials regularly used in lessons.
Students have their own iPad and access to our multi-media classroom where they can work using the latest technology and language specific apps. The School's website has a specific Spanish section where students can find extra resources and links to the work seen in class or set by their teacher. The online planner and email are regularly used by pupils to communicate with their teacher.
We are lucky to have two Spanish assistants (native Spanish-speaking ) in the Department. During the academic year they work with pupils in pairs, or sometimes small groups, and on a one to one basis with A Level candidates, in order to help the students improve their oral skills, as well as prepare for their examinations.
Trips and exchanges are also an important part of our programme. Sixth Form students have the possibility of a week’s study trip to Salamanca during February half term. Students stay with families and attend lessons every day. Third and Fourth year pupils can participate in a Homestay programme visiting Córdoba, in the South of Spain, during the Easter holidays. Here the students also attend lessons in the morning and stay with families in pairs. First and Second year pupils are invited to get their first real taste of Spain in a five day visit to Catalonia during May half term. There is also the possibility of private exchanges and for more information about this you should contact Mrs Ladislao.
