I am pleased to inform you that arrangements have been made for a trip to Catalonia. This trip is available to those members of the First and Second Year who study Spanish, and will take place from Friday 22nd to Tuesday 26th May 2020.
We will be booking the trip through the educational tour company, Travelbound. We are going to spend five days on the Costa Brava, with a base for five nights in Tossa de Mar. Tossa de Mar is an attractive seaside resort situated about 100 kilometres north of Barcelona and 100 kilometres south of the French border. Founded by the Romans, it has an attractive old quarter, the Vila Vela, with cobbled streets and whitewashed houses, and great views over the beach and bay. It is the ideal base for this type of trip; large enough to enjoy exploring, but small and safe enough to allow pupils a degree of controlled independence, which would be impossible in a larger place.
We will travel by coach from School to London, and then by plane to Barcelona. From there, it is a coach journey of about an hour and a half to Tossa de Mar, where we will be staying in a three star hotel with a pool, a short walk from the beach and the picturesque centre of this little town.
Although based in Tossa de Mar we will make a number of excursions. We will spend a full day in Barcelona, starting off at the Plaça de Catalunya and walking down the Ramblas, exploring the old Gothic Quarter and the fantastic Mercado de la Boqueria, ending up at the Mirador de Colón and the port area. We will end our day in Barcelona with a visit to Gaudi’s Parc Güell.
On one of the other days we will again travel by coach, first to the town of Figueres, where we will visit the entertaining and extraordinary Dalí museum. The other excursion will be to Girona, a medieval city with Moorish and Jewish quarters. The trip will be topped off, of course, by a trip to the Nou Camp, home of FC Barcelona.
This trip is a great chance to visit this vibrant region of Spain. The cost, which includes transfers, flights, full board and excursions, will be approximately £670 (this may be subject to change as flights and the itinerary are finalised). Pupils may also like to bring some money for food on the journeys to and from Spain, and some pocket money for spending when we are there.
If pupils do not have a British Passport they may require a Visa to visit Spain. This is the Parents’ responsibility to arrange and the School will not be liable for any costs incurred.
Pupils will be covered by School insurance for this trip, but will not be covered for any pre-existing conditions. Parents may need to purchase their own insurance to cover such conditions. For further clarity on this please contact Assistant Head Co-Curricular Mr Kent.
To secure a place on the trip, please pay a non-refundable deposit of £150. Places are allocated in the order in which payment is received and the quickest way of paying is by using KESpay KP894. The KESpay option will close on Friday 4th October. Places are limited to 40 for this trip. If places are fully booked, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be placed on a waiting list.
The School will also accept payment by cheque, and cheques will be processed once the KESpay option is available. However, do please be aware that payment by cheque may delay the allocation of a place. Cheques should be sent directly to the Accounts Office and must have the child’s name and the name of the trip on the reverse, and be made payable to King Edward VI School.
I will confirm the allocation of places as soon as possible. For cheque payments, please do not assume a place is secured until a confirmation is received.
