Music While You Lunch November 2019

On the 18th November 2019, the Music department hosted the second concert of our Music While You Lunch series. Staff and students were invited to the lunchtime concert in the Recital Room, to enjoy the work of students, cake and refreshments! Jack Evans launched the performances with his rendition of Nocturne in G Minor Op.37 No.1 by Chopin, demonstrating his excellent progress in his A Level piano coursework. Mia Blake sang a beautiful interpretation of I Dreamed A Dream by Schoenberg, from the much loved musical, Les Misérables. Edward Bence demonstrated his technical excellence and intrinsic musicality in his performance of Étude No.5 Op.10 “Black Keys” by Chopin. After such an invigorating piece, Sophie Wu created a tranquil atmosphere with her brilliant performance of Träumerei by Schumann. Our penultimate performer Isobel Fleming performed the challenging, unaccompanied piece Czardas on her trumpet. Our youngest performer, Sophie Kileff concluded our concert with two short pieces, with a large tonal contrast between them, the baroque Aria by JS Bach, and the jazz piece I Got Rhythm by Gershwin. Both pieces were performed with a sense of great pleasure and accomplishment. We are very proud of all our performers and grateful for their participation in creating a joyful event on a cold November day.
