The current cost (from September 2021) is £20.25 per lesson and parents are billed by the instrumental teachers at the start of each term. Notice must be provided when lessons are missed, in accordance with the teacher's terms and conditions, otherwise these will be charged for.

In the Upper School and Sixth Form, students' lessons take place before or after school or during the lunchtime or study periods. In the Lower School, whilst some lessons also take place at these times, the majority of lessons are arranged on a rota basis, where pupils miss a different School lesson each week in order to have their music lesson.

It is important that you contact the instrumental teacher early in the morning if your son or daughter will miss a lesson for any reason. Half a term's notice is required if a pupil wishes to stop having lessons.

We strongly encourage all students having lessons to participate in one of the many bands, orchestras and choirs in the School. In this way they will develop as musicians and become thoroughly involved in the musical life of the School.

We will do our very best to accommodate all those students who wish to take music lessons. There is sometimes a waiting list operating for certain instruments. If lessons are required on an instrument which is not listed, please let us know so we can try to help.

Pupils are required to provide their own instruments. Arrangements can be made at School for use of percussion and double bass.

Students do not have to take examinations, but they are encouraged to do so if they wish to. The School acts as a centre for Associated Board examinations twice a year, and some teachers help pupils to take examinations with other boards such as Guildhall and Trinity, though these are not taken at School.
Accompanists are available for GCSE, A-level performances and instrumental examinations; pupils should see Ms Taylor, Creative Arts Administrator, to book accompanying sessions.
Help with aural work required for the examinations will be offered as part of the music lesson. If students require extra help, they should go to Ms Taylor for more information.
Music Theory classes are available and pupils should go to the Music Administrator to book a place in a class, which are graded by ability.

If you have any questions about Instrumental and Vocal lessons, please contact Ms Taylor, Creative Arts Administrator) via email (rlt or by telephone (023 8070 4561).
