Holocaust survivor visits KES

One of the highlights of the Sixth Form guest speaker programme is always the annual visit of Holocaust survivor Freddie Knoller. Although Freddie’s second world war story ends in the horrors of Auschwitz and Belsen, his experiences as a refugee with an assumed identity working his passage in Paris and later as a resistance fighter in southern France is a real life adventure story. Freddie’s story was made into a BBC documentary last year and the Upper Sixth watched the documentary before asking Freddie questions. Although 94, he still has a mischievous glint in his eye and his unrelenting optimism always makes what is, in part, a horrific story one of hope and one that many students will remember long after they have forgotten the content of their lessons.
