KES Christmas Carol Service

The dark and damp of a December evening were dispelled by the warmth and joy at the School's annual Carol Service in Romsey Abbey. With a full orchestra to accompany the exuberant singing of traditional congregational carols, a festive time was had by all. The Abbey look resplendent, the staging overflowing with choirs of students, staff and parents, the First Year choir and the Chamber Choir. Biblical readings poems and prayers gave us cause to reflect afresh on the Christmas message and a particular musical highlight was the UK premiere of Avro Pärt’s Christmas Lullaby, featuring two harps and violins with the Senior Choir. Candles held aloft for O Come all ye Faithful lit the way into the night, with a quick stop for some mince pies and mulled wine; no figgy pudding despite the choirs insistent demands in We wish you a merry Christmas that they wouldn’t go until they got some!
