On 9th March the second of this term’s spring concerts was held at Turner Sims, Southampton University and showcased over 100 of the School’s senior musicians in a sparking and varied programme. The Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir and Big band were on top form, and a number of chamber groups and soloists complemented. This was also a concert with something new; an accordion player in the Chamber Orchestra’s performance of a Shostakovich Jazz Waltz, a delightful harp solo performed by Ellie Dunlop, a rousing performance by the newly formed Brass Sextet and a team of Fifth Years performing Elliott Cole’s 'Postlude 8' for bowed vibraphone - in darkness! No KES concert would be complete without a glittering finale and this year the solo singers rounded the evening off in great style with a performance of 'Sway' to the accompaniment of combined Big Band, Orchestra and dancers. The concert was brought to a close with exploding streamer cannons and rapturous applause from the full house.
