The Physics Department enjoys excellent facilities for the students. All seven members of teaching staff are physics and engineering specialists. We are housed in five modern, well-equipped and fully supported laboratories and one laboratory dedicated to Sixth Form project work. This allows our students to experience the full breadth of practical physics.
In the International GCSE years we combine an introduction to the basic underlying principles of physics with the concomitant skills required to master this most fascinating subject. We also introduce the pupils to aspects of modern physics that both capture the imagination and have direct relevance to their lives.
This leads directly onto the A-level Physics course (OCR B Advancing Physics), where students are able to develop a much deeper understanding of the core ideas in Physics and also encounter ideas from areas of Physics that are still at the forefront of research.
We are passionate about enabling students from all cultures and backgrounds access to Physics at KES to enable them to reach their potential. The Physics department recently spearheaded the campaign for the school to join the "Gender Action" award scheme (news article), and also more recently the new "Limit Less" campaign by the Institute of Physics.
