Christmas Carols

Earlier this week we heard a bit more detail about national Christmas arrangements from the Prime Minister. It is undeniably true that the festive season will be different in 2020, and sadly we may not be able to enjoy the company of as wide a circle of friends and loved ones as in past years.

But there has always been one joyous event which marks the start of Christmas celebrations at our School, and I know that it does for our parents as much as for our pupils and staff. The KES Carol Service. As with all things, this too has had to be changed to fit in with current social distancing rules. This year, we cannot enjoy a mince pie (or three!) and a glass of mulled wine together, as we celebrate Christmas in music and prayer from the beauty of Romsey Abbey. Whilst we will return to our traditional Carol Service next year, we must accept that for now it is simply not possible.

But I hope that you will join us for our annual service nonetheless. On Monday 14 December at precisely 7.30pm we will be streaming a pre-recorded KES Christmas Carol Service. I hope that you will try to make the time to gather as a family and watch the service from your own home. I hope that we can have this moment, across the length and breadth of Hampshire and our region, when the whole KES community comes together, in spirit if not in person.

But do not worry if you cannot watch the service ‘as live’. It will remain available online throughout the Christmas season. So you can choose your perfect family moment to ‘kick off’ the festivities (as we always have done, and always will do) with the KES Christmas Carol Service.

All of which also gives me the perfect excuse to be the very first to wish you a very Happy Christmas, and a peaceful New Year!

Whole School Notices

Christmas Jumper Day - Friday 11 December - £1 Donation

On Friday 11 December all students and staff are invited to wear their best festive jumper to school. We ask that you bring along a donation of £1 which will be donated to Save the Children. You don't even need a new jumper. Dig out last year's, take an old sweater and add some tinsel, or buy from a charity shop. Together we'll help this year not be so bad, and make the world better with a sweater.

Christmas Lunch

Pupils who do not usually have school lunches but would like to have the Christmas lunch on the last day of term should purchase a ticket for £4.70 via KESpay here . Please ensure that you specify which type of lunch you would like (Traditional (T), Vegetarian (V) or Other (O) e.g. Halal) and your ticket will be delivered to your tutor group in advance of the meal. The deadline for ticket sales is Thursday 10 December.

Spring Term Practice Schedule

This week at KES...

KES Super League

The KES Super League has been epic - with over 400 students taking part and bringing so much energy!

When the scores are combined across all year groups and both sports, the Sharks are in the lead by just 2 points! The Tigers and Eagles are equal in 2nd place and the Cobras are within touching distance of all 3. For all results please see here

There's absolutely everything to play for tomorrow and we can not wait!

We managed to catch some awesome drone footage from last week's KES Super League, which you can see here.

We're looking forward to Fourth Year pupils joining us next week.

Outstanding Achievements!

We are delighted to pass on some great news of two former pupils, who both left KES Upper Sixth form in the Summer.

We have received a communication from the Royal Geographical Society that Zoe has been awarded the Overall Winner in this year’s RGS Young Geographer of the Year competition for the Key Stage 5 age group, for an essay exploring ‘The World Beyond My Window’ during lockdown.

Equally impressively, Arev was the winner of the Salters-Nuffield Advanced Biology A-Level Award, based this year on an essay Arev submitted about mRNA vaccines for COVID-19!
