Sixth Form


At KES there are no boundaries to your intellectual growth. We want to stretch you, but much more importantly, we want you to stretch yourself, and seek out your own path to do so.  

Extended Project – a mix of timetabled plus independent study. A chance to engage in university style research and tutorials, that can be a dissertation, a performance, an artistic object or some research. Not directly co-curricular but outisde of timetabled lessons and something that results in a qualification prized by the top universities

Academic Societies – You choose the topics, the speakers and even the biscuits. Where a society doesn’t exist we will support you set it up.

Beyond Hill Lane – you will be invited to lectures at Southampton University, Oxford, London, Houses of Parliament, Southampton General Hospital and many other venues. Further afield you might find yourself re-treading the path of existentialist philosophers in Paris, or attending a session of the European Parliament in Brussels.

Aspire – applying to the most competitive universities requires you to have gone beyond the A Level syllabus. Many subjects offer additional enrichment or master classes open to all but especially well attended by those with ambitions for Oxbridge or other competitive courses.

Develop the confidence to compete in a wider arena and see how you fare – in addition to the higher levels of the Maths and Science Olympiads you will know, there are a host of academic competitions and essay prizes that are supported. In recent years participants and winners have got to meet the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Present to the Bank of England, attend a prize winners party boat trip on the Thames, and attend a two day law seminar at Cambridge University.
