At King Edward VI School sport is an integral part of school life. We are delighted to have a range of awards and scholarships available with a variety of benefits. All holders of awards and scholarships will be a member of the Elite Sports Performer Programme in which we support the individual’s sporting development within the whole school environment. These student receive specialist Strength and Conditioning sessions, individual training programmes when appropriate, mentoring and external talks from a range of speakers for example: elite athletes, psychologist and physiotherapists.
11+ & 13+ awards
Each year a number of sports awards are available for those applying to join us at both 11+ and 13+.
We invite applications from children with a passion for sport who have achieved, or shown the potential to achieve, a high level of sporting performance in at least one of the school’s major sports; hockey, rugby, netball and cricket.
A shortlist of applicants will be invited to attend a selection day . This will involve a morning of fitness assessment and an afternoon of team sport coaching sessions that will focus on competitive sporting performance. The students will also have the opportunity to meet our A Level Sport Scientists as well as the Sports department to gain a deeper insight into KES sport as well as ask any questions.
We are delighted to offer sports scholarships at 16+. These are available to both current and prospective students for entry into the 6th form and are aimed at students who have achieved at regional level of performance or higher in at least one of the major sports of the school.
Applicants should complete and return the application form available from the registrars office. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview and a member of the Sports department will watch them perform for their club where possible.
