We strongly encourage our students to make informed decisions and to visit the universities they are considering before making an application. All universities will offer Open Days and we encourage students to use the time after their AS examinations to visit Universities that offer courses to which they may apply.
Universities publish their Open Days on their websites and booking on-line is required. Most universities insist that students should book for specific subject talks and indeed, failure to do so may mean that you are not allowed into the lecture hall. For very popular subjects such as Medicine, early booking is essential. The school does not get involved in this process as every student will wish to organise their visit day differently according to their preferred subjects.
Undergraduate Open Day programmes are usually provided by each university as pdf files which students can download.
Use the student portal mystudentevents.com/ to find out exactly what HE events are available to you.
If Open Days are offered on a Saturday (as many are) we would not expect a student to take time out of the curriculum on weekdays.
Tutors should be informed of any proposed visits and the suitability of courses should be discussed. We expect all students to be present in school for UCAS Training, Personal Statement workshops, and Leavers' Day in June, and for the Careers Day in July. Please see the published calendar of events for specific dates.
We will generally aim to run official school trips to a number of University Open Days and coaches will provided by the School. Please follow this link for trips in 2020. Parent(s) are encouraged to attend with their son/daughter - please book using KESpay.
When booking a place on a school coach it will also be necessary to book places online with the university for specific talks. Please note that the coach will depart from Hill Lane at an early time (this could be as early as 6.30am) and will depart from the university town by 4.00pm in order to reach Southampton by approximately 6.30pm.
In the past we have run coaches to the universities of Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Oxford and Cambridge. Please check at the LVI Higher Education Evening for specific dates for this year.
