Examples of work placements

We consider work shadowing to be very important to help students clarify their career ideas and therefore encourage Lower Sixth students to undertake work experience during the school holidays. We facilitate this process by conducting one-to-one interviews with interested students and by helping students source bespoke work shadowing placements or industry visits. Placements are unpaid but can lead to offers of apprenticeships or paid holiday work during undergraduate courses.

Examples of the wide range of work shadowing placements that KES helps to organise are:

  • Medicine & Health Professions
  • Engineering
  • Law
  • Accountancy
  • Architecture
  • Computing
  • Animal Husbandry
  • BBC South
  • Film Production
  • Merchant Navy
  • Theatre Management

Some student comments:

"It was useful to see behind the scenes and discuss relevant career opportunities." (BBC South)

"I experienced different things with different barristers every day and got to see the work of multiple solicitors too." (Barristers Chambers)

"It taught me so much about how the NHS works and gave me good insight into Multi-Disciplinary Teams." (Southampton General Hospital)

"The work experience programme was exciting, stimulating and a very worthwhile experience. The tasks that were set gave a good insight into the industry; I learnt key skills including technical drawing, CAD use and, possibly most importantly, how an engineer thinks." (TNG Consulting Engineers)
